Purpose - The purpose of my Music magazine is to update the community and fans on what is happening around in a specific music scene, my aim is to show deeper insights into a certain music genre or a band. I want to do this so people can easily follow a certain music scene and know more about individual artists.
Style - The style i am going to try and comprehend into my music magazine will be very informal due to the fact i am making this magazine to update and inform people. I will be incorporating this style into my music magazine due to the fact my main target is to update people with new scene happenings. This will include certain things such as interviews, rumours and announcements.
Magazine Features - In my magazine i will need to include a lot of criteria to update and keep everyone informed, this means i would need to include almost anything into my magazine a typical music fan would find interesting, these would include things such as interviews, headlines, rumours and fun activities. Here are some ideas i have thought of displayed below.
- Interview with the metalicca lead singer
- Band antartica performs at leeds concert!
- Rock star Iggie Pop drug rumours
- New years concert to be at 02 arena
Possible Magazine Names - A magazine cover is the most important part of any magazine since it's the first thing readers will see. I have'nt yet decided on which music genre i will choose yet, therefore i will display names to match different genres. The better presented it looks the more people will want to view it. I have thought of a wide range of magazine names i am suggesting to use, some of these would include:
- Pedal 2 Metal
- Ghetto Gossip
- Indienation
- Rumours & Blues
- Dub Nation
- D&B Source
Music Genre - I have decided to choose a music genre such as dubstep or drum and bass due to the fact these two music types dont happen to receive much attention and exposure. Also this would do a huge favour for each scene since this would be the first big magazine for any of these genres and this would benefit them hugely with more public exposure.
Colour Themes - The main colours i will be using for my music magazine will be a mixture of cool and breezy colours. This could mean mixing colours like white and different shades of blue. this could even mean using a negotiable colour which is also very flowing and expressive such as green. These are colours which i would describe as flowing colours which are very airy, fresh and relaxing. This also relates to both music types.
Possible Magazine Pictures - I have chosen to follow drum and bass and taken a few photos of people while i have been out. Since drum and bass is associated more with the partying and raving scene i have taken a few photos while i have been out in town. Some of the things what are most associated with these music genres are DJ's working on their decks, mixing music is the main aim of these types of music therefore this is the best way of expression.

This is a picture i have taken of a friend who is a DJ at a club in town. I would consider this as the first choice for displaying my music magazine cover, a key point i would like to make about this photo is that it includes a lot of excitement, energy and talent which represents the drum and bass scene. If i was to use this photo for the front of my magazine cover i would have to make the picture gently darker using brightness and contrast. I would then increase the saturation gently to add colour and connote an atmosphere that the drum and bass music scene is very bold and exciting. I would also crop the person out of the picture on the right side to show that chris is the main focus of this picture.
Magazine Fonts - I need to explore the fonts i will use for my music magazine, i personally think drum and bass connotes a very fast feeling which means i will need to look into thin fast looking fonts. Drum and bass often appeals to younger people who are creative and sometimes like graffiti, therefore using a thin and tidy graffiti like text would be ideal for this music genre.
This is the main font i have considered using for the headlines of my music magazine. I have decided this would be an ideal font for headings to the fact it is very bold, eye catching and hazardous looking. The first thing i think of when i see this font is crime tape due to the way each letter splits up with lines. This is another thing to associate with drum and bass because it is a very extreme and underground music category. I will most likely use this font for titles and the front cover.

Purpose - The purpose of my sixth form magazine is to update the community on what is happening around the premesis, my aim is to show that although the sixth form is mainly about education it is also about entertainment, activity and socialising. I want to show the community that this sixth form is about having as much fun as you can while you learn.
Style - The style i am going to try and comprehend into my sixth form magazine will be quite humourous but serious at the same time, this will show that sixth form isn't a place where you can have fun, do no work and there are expectations.
Representation - When i am designing my magazine i will take into consideration the main objective i have is to represent our sixth form in the best way i can and by doing this i mean every picture has to be the best it can. My plan is to make the magazine stand out from other ones showing our sixth form area is unique with outstanding smiles, happiness and educated students everywhere.
Magazine Features - In my magazine i will need to include a lot of criteria to update and keep everyone informed, this means i would need to incorporate almost anything into my magazine a typical student would find interesting, these would include things such as interviews, headlines and fun activities. Here are some ideas i have thought of displayed below.
- Interview with the sixth form headmaster!
- Sixth form basketball team takes another win!
- New computers to be put in the study room.
- Christmas sixth form social coming soon!
- Cafe food menus
- Sixth form trips and information
Possible Magazine Names - A magazine cover is the most important part of any magazine since it's the first thing readers will see, the better presented it looks the more people will want to view it. I have thought of a wide range of magazine names i am suggesting to use, some of these would include:
- The Parker Times
- Social Sixth
- Student Room
- Social Study
- Sixth Social
Colour Themes - The main colours i will be using for my sixth form magazine will be a mixture of femanine and masculine colours. This could mean mixing colours like pink and blues, this could even mean using a negotiable colour which is inbetween a masculine and femanine colour such as red.
This is the magazine cover for a Secondary school magazine and they have decided to call it HighProfile. By looking at the front cover of this magazine i can tell this magazine is aimed at the childrens parents, this is down to the very mature title font. If you see they have made the word 'Profile' bold to make this word stand out. If this magazine was to be aimed at the school pupils it would be alot more colourful, exciting and enjoyable.
If you take a look at the cover you can clearly see School pupils enjoying a school trip. The pupils are purposely placed behind the staff to show the parent readers that they have their children secure and nothing can happen due to them being in safe hands. They first thing you can see is they are representing their school down to them wearing the well distinctive uniform. The school is trying to pin a point that the curriculum is active, fun and exciting.
The magazine cover has delibrately been designed to show the parents how well their children are treated, You cna see my looking at the front cover they have mixed warm and cold colours such as blue and red. Red usually connotes love, sex and anger but in this case they have made it connote warmth and friendship. On the other hand they have mixed red with a very cold colour like Blue, blue is a colour which in this case connotes freedom, freshness and purity. They have puposely put the blues together to mix in with the sky. Another suggestion why they have mixed these two colours is to show that they are active in the winter and the summer being both warm and cold seasons.
If you take a look at the text it is very simple, mature and straight forward. It is aimed at parents so they want to be able to read the text with no hassle, at some parts in the text the word 'Profile' has been made bold. This obviously means they want us to focus on the word, the main thing they could be suggesting to us is their profile is boldy above any other schools in the area. They have definately tried to make the magazine seem exciting, catchy and fun by the use of exclamation marks and fun grammar.
By looking at the magazine cover you can see the Image layout is quite simple. They are showing to us that they take great care of their students, they protect them perfectly and they are always in control. And behind is the backdrop, the horizon is a lovely blue sky and it contrasts very well with the white text. They have used this to fade our eyes across into their blue uniforms.

High Profile Magazine
This is the magazine cover for a Secondary school magazine and they have decided to call it HighProfile. Personally i think this magazine is aimed at the childrens parents simply due to the simple yet effect text, if it was to be aimed at the school pupils it would be bold, colourful and effective.
If you take a look at the cover you can clearly see School pupils enjoying a trip, the first thing you can see is they are representing their school. The school is trying to pin a point that the curriculum is active, fun and exciting.
You can clearly see the school has purposely tried to make the cover appeal to parents without being boring, whilst at the same time trying to show them how well their children are treated. You can see from looking at the front cover that the colours are very atmospheric, natural and free. There are alot of natural colours involved like Blue and Green, blue often connotes freedom and freshness due to the sky being blue. Along with this they have combined it with green which connotes the most natural colour of any colour, this is due to Trees, landscape and the natural habitat growing.
You can see the catchy line on the front page is "KEHS girls having a ‘wet and wild’ time!". They have definately tried to make the magazine seem exciting, catchy and fun by the use of exclamation marks and fun grammar.
By looking at the magazine cover you can see the Image layout is quite simple. They are showing to us that they put their Students first with the girl being the main attraction of the front cover. Slightly behind they have staff members, this displays they are always there to control their students and they are very important to them always being very close to them. And behind is the backdrop, a simple mountain leading into the horizon showing the fun is still there and their main aim is to keep the girls happy throughout activity.
Hello my name is Jamie Harrison and i am an AS Level Media Studies student. I am starting my foundation production coursework, this will be divided into three sections. These will consist of Research and Planning (including school magazine), Construction (of the music magazine) and finally Evaluation of the practical work.
1) Planning and Research; for this we will be creating a School Magazine, using original images, Adobe Photoshop and InDesign. For this we will have to create a magazine front cover and a contents page.
2) Construction; using the knowlegde from Planning and Research, I will be making the main part of my coursework, the Music Magazine, this will also involve creating a front page, contents and also a double page spread.
3) Evaluation; this is the conclusion for the entire coursework, this is where I'll be commenting about where I went wrong, how I justifed it and how I made it better.
